Fact Vs Fiction: List of Fake News That Mired RG Kar Rape and Murder of Doctor

The RG Kar incident has been mired in several controversies, even after the case was handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the Calcutta High Court on August 13, four days after the crime. The Kolkata Police had arrested Sanjay Roy within 10 hours since the brutal rape and murder of the 31 year old PGT medical student inside the seminar room of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital (MCH), yet the police had come under severe criticism from the junior doctors accusing them of mishandling of the case, alleged destruction evidences and dereliction of duty. Kolkata Police had denied all the charges and never objected to the case being handed over to the central agency. Even after months of investigation CBI has concluded that Sanjoy Roy was indeed the sole person who had committed the crime of rape and murder.

CBI filed their first chargesheet on October 7 without highlighting any contradiction with the findings of the police. While former officer in charge of the local police station, Abhijit Monday was arrested by CBI but court had later released him on bail after CBI failed to file chargesheet against him within the stipulated time, corroborating the charges against him with evidences.

The RG Kar controversies have heavily relied on series of fake news and a deliberate misinformation drive. Even though such fake news had fuelled public anger and outrage yet, on verification, CBI found no merit in them.

Here’s the list of Fake News That Stoked RG Kar Controversies
