West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday has called the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led NDA government at the centre ‘unstable’, predicted its fall anytime soon. Speaking during the ‘Martyr Day’ annual rally in Kolkata, the Trinamool congress supremo lashed out at the BJP, calling the Lok Sabha election result a mandate on BJP’s arrogance and misuse of power.

“It was completely a one-sided election, the way Election Commission worked, the media played a biased role. Yet, the INDIA alliance vote share is over 51 percent while BJP and NDA’s cumulative vote share is 46 percent. That means people have given their mandate, BJP has lost the election. It is just a matter of time. We will tell BJP good-bye” said Mamata Banerjee from the stage, also shared by Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav. She claimed BJP was trying to cling on to power through intimidation politics.

This was the first time, TMC chairperson has made such an open prediction after the Lok Sabha where BJP was restricted to 240 seats. While BJP stayed as the single largest party but unlike 2014 and 2019, it lacked the majority to form government on its own. Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP and Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) joined hands with the BJP, helping them form the government. “BJP doesn’t have the majority now. They have bought parties. Have you ever heard of this? BJP bought alliances with money but didn’t give them ministry. It is sad some parties have bowed down before money like greedy traitors. But we will never do this”, Mamata Banerjee added, taking an indirect dig at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu without taking their names.

Lauding Akhilesh Yadav for the performance of the Samajwadi Party in winning 37 seats out of 80 in Uttar Pradesh, Banerjee evoked her famous “khela hobe” call as the crowd cheered back. “The khel you have done in UP has checked BJP. BJP (Yogi Govt) should have resigned but they are shameless. So you have to wait a bit. It is just a matter of time when BJP falls”, Mamata Banerjee said to Akhilesh Yadav. She later hoisted his hand and pledged to work together to help ensure “the fall of Modi Government”.
