Eknath Shinde’s Delhi Visit Sparks Political Buzz Post-Cabinet Expansion
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s recent visit to Delhi, where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President JP Nadda, has stirred political speculation. This was Shinde’s first trip to the capital since the Cabinet expansion, marking a significant moment in Maharashtra’s political landscape.
Backdrop of Speculation
Shinde has not visited the Mantralaya or convened official meetings since portfolios were allocated, opting to work from outside. Reports suggest lingering dissatisfaction despite being granted key portfolios after the Mahayuti government’s formation. Initially, Shinde had aspired to the chief minister’s post, which went to Devendra Fadnavis.
When Fadnavis and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar visited Delhi earlier to meet Central leaders, Shinde remained in his native village Dare in Satara district. This absence fueled rumors of discontent, adding weight to his recent Delhi visit.
Shinde Clarifies Intentions
Addressing the media after the meetings, Shinde dismissed political motives, emphasizing development. “This was not a political visit. Over the last two-and-a-half years, we’ve demonstrated how welfare schemes can be effectively implemented, and the people have recognized that. I thank Prime Minister Modi for his assurance of continued support for Maharashtra’s development,” he said.
Shinde added, “Under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s leadership, we are beginning a new chapter. Maharashtra’s immense potential will drive our efforts. Myself, CM Fadnavis, and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar will continue engaging with Central leadership to ensure the state’s progress.”
The Visit and Accompanying Members
Shinde’s visit comes nearly 20 days after the swearing-in ceremony, signaling a potential resolution to political differences. He was accompanied by his son, MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde, and daughter-in-law Vrushali Shinde.
Significance of the Meeting
Political analysts view Shinde’s Delhi trip as an effort to reinforce unity within the Mahayuti government while focusing on Maharashtra’s development agenda. His meeting with the BJP’s top leadership appears to consolidate the coalition’s stability and strategic alignment.
