Eknath Shinde Discharged from Hospital following a Routine Check-Up
Maharashtra's caretaker Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, was discharged from Thane's Jupiter Hospital on Tuesday after a routine check-up. Shinde, who had been suffering from a throat infection and fever, was admitted earlier in the day for further examination. Following his discharge, he returned to his official residence, Varsha.
Shinde had traveled to his native village in Satara last Friday, amid speculation over his dissatisfaction with the new government’s formation. However, Shinde has publicly declared his commitment to the Mahayuti alliance. "I have no greed for a chair," he said. "The people of Maharashtra have showered their love on us, and nothing matters more than that,” he added.
As the December 5 swearing-in ceremony of Maharashtra’s new Mahayuti government approaches, the political situation remains unclear. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the event, but the crucial question about the Chief Minister's post remains unresolved. A per reports, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis is the leading contender, though the alliance has yet to officially announce a candidate.
Tensions over seat-sharing between Shinde’s Shiv Sena and the BJP are said to be fueling the uncertainty. Shinde, along with NCP leader Ajit Pawar and senior BJP figures, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi last Thursday to resolve the deadlock. However, reports suggest the meeting failed to bring a resolution.
