“Does RSS support buying votes?”: Arvind Kejriwal writes to RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat highlighting BJP’s “Wrongdoings”
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo, Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday shot off a letter to RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, escalating his criticism of the BJP, raising pointed questions about the party's actions in the run-up to the Delhi elections. In his letter, the former Delhi Chief Minister underscored what he described as "wrongdoings" by the BJP.
"BJP leaders are openly distributing money, does RSS support buying votes? The names of Dalit and Purvanchali voters are being struck off (from voter lists) on a large scale. Does RSS think this is good for democracy? Doesn’t RSS feel that the BJP is weakening democracy? “questioned Kejriwal in his letter sent ahead of the Delhi assembly elections.
The former Delhi Chief Minister, in a recent media interaction lambasted the BJP, claiming that the party lacked both a vision and viable candidates for the Delhi election. "BJP wants to win this election somehow by using dishonest means. But the people of Delhi won’t let this happen. We won’t let them win by using the tactics they are said to have used in Maharashtra and Haryana," he remarked, urging Delhiites to regularly check their names on the voter list.
In addition, he alleged that the BJP had launched "Operation Lotus" in his New Delhi constituency, where he represents the people. "In 15 days, they have put in applications to delete names of 5,000 voters and also applied for the addition of 7,500 names to the voter list. The total votes in my constituency is 1 lakh 6 thousand. What is the point of holding an election then? A game is playing out in the name of election," he said. The AAP leader further questioned the legitimacy of the revised voter list released by the Election Commission on October 29, asking, "If there is a 12 percent difference as the BJP claims, was the poll body's summary revision wrong?" Kejriwal suggested that the BJP planned to bring in people from outside Delhi and register them as Delhi voters to manipulate the results.
AAP has consistently alleged that the BJP is actively getting voters' names removed from the electoral rolls to skew the results in its favor. On the other hand, the BJP has countered these claims, accusing AAP of getting fake voters added to the list.
Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva defended the party, pointing out the significant increase in the number of voters between the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and the subsequent assembly election. He questioned, "Who got these new voters? There are no answers." Sachdeva also claimed that the AAP was using these claims to cover up its own alleged malpractice, arguing that the BJP was merely asking for the removal of voters who no longer resided in Delhi or who were deceased
