Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday lauded the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly election. He expressed his gratitude and pride in the party's success, highlighting the dedication and hard work of BJP's workers.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister declared that "development won, good governance won" and congratulated the people of Delhi for their support. "My salute and congratulations to all my brothers and sisters for giving a historic victory to BJP... I am very grateful to all of you from the bottom of my heart," Modi wrote in Hindi.
The Prime Minister assured Delhi's residents that the BJP would prioritize the city's all-around development. "We guarantee that we will leave no stone unturned to ensure the all-round development of Delhi, and to make the lives of its people better... we will also ensure Delhi plays an important role in building a developed India," he promised.
Modi further praised the hard work of BJP workers who dedicated themselves to the campaign. "I am very proud of all my workers of BJP who worked day and night for this massive mandate. Now we will be even more strongly dedicated to serving the people of Delhi," he added.
The BJP’s landslide victory marks the party’s return to power in Delhi for the first time in over two decades. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, was decisively defeated. The BJP surged into a dominant early lead in the vote count, securing leads in 50 out of Delhi’s 70 seats as the counting began. Although AAP mounted a brief comeback, by 2:30 PM, with over 85% of the votes counted, it was clear that the BJP had won 48 seats, while AAP was leading in 22 seats.
In a video message shortly after the final results began to take shape, Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister, conceded defeat. "The results of the Delhi election were declared today... and we accept the people's verdict. The people's decision is paramount," Kejriwal said. He congratulated the BJP on its victory and expressed hope that the party would meet the expectations of the people who voted for them. "I congratulate the BJP on its victory, and I hope that it lives up to the hopes and expectations of the people who have given them a majority," Kejriwal added. Kejriwal, who lost his own seat in New Delhi to BJP’s Parvesh Verma, acknowledged the scale of the AAP’s defeat.
Meanwhile, Congress, which previously governed Delhi from 1998 to 2013, failed to make any significant gains in this election. The party appears to have once again fallen short, unable to secure a seat in the Delhi Assembly.
