Delhi Class 12 Student Detained for Orchestrating Bomb Hoaxes to Skip Exams
A Class 12 student in Delhi has been detained by the city police for orchestrating a series of bomb hoaxes that sparked widespread panic across multiple schools. The student, a minor, was found to be behind a string of bomb threat emails that were sent to various schools in an attempt to avoid his upcoming exams.
The police discovered that the student had sent these threats on at least six occasions, targeting different schools each time, and often including multiple institutions in a single email to avoid detection.
According to the police, the student’s strategy was to cause enough disruption to have the exams cancelled. On one occasion, he sent an email to as many as 23 schools in an effort to increase the chaos. These bomb threats created significant alarm, triggering emergency responses from authorities and keeping the city on edge for weeks.
During this period, bomb squads and sniffer dogs were deployed to investigate the threats, while students were evacuated from their schools. Despite the panic, no explosives were ever found, but the hoaxes led to wasted time and school closures. Many students ended up with an unexpected day off as a result of these disruptions.
The hoaxes reached a peak last month when more than 40 schools, including prominent institutions like DPS RK Puram and GD Goenka in Paschim Vihar, received a bomb threat via email. The message claimed bombs had been planted inside the schools and demanded a ransom of $30,000 for their safe removal. This incident fueled a political debate, with the Delhi government criticizing the BJP-led central government for the deteriorating law and order situation in the city.
As the frequency of these hoaxes increased, the Delhi Police began taking proactive measures to address the issue. They held seminars for teachers and school staff, educating them on how to handle such crises and ensure safety during these events.
