Delhi Assembly Elections: Voting Underway, Security Tightened at Borders

Voting for the Delhi Assembly elections is currently underway, with several political leaders casting their votes, including President Droupadi Murmu, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Ahead of the elections, authorities have stepped up security measures along Delhi’s borders. Gautam Buddha Nagar Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh on Tuesday announced that vehicles crossing into the national capital would be subject to stringent inspections.
Security Checks Intensified at Delhi Borders
According to an official police statement, the security checks are being conducted at key border points, including Chilla Border, New Ashok Nagar, and Jhundpura, along with other areas in the Noida zone. The operation is being led by Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Shivhari Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Noida Rambadan Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Lakhan Singh Yadav, and Additional Commissioner of Police Noida Sumit Shukla.
“This initiative follows the Election Commission’s directives, which mandate vehicle inspections in border areas for 72 hours to ensure a smooth and peaceful polling process,” said DCP Singh. He added that authorities are closely monitoring suspicious individuals and vehicles, with the checking campaign having commenced on December 27.
Polling is being held across all 70 constituencies, witnessing a three-way contest between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress. The ruling AAP, facing corruption allegations, is seeking a third consecutive term, while the BJP and Congress are aiming to wrest power from the incumbent government.
