Delhi Assembly Elections: 57.7% Voter Turnout by 5 PM as Polling Day Winds Down
Voting for the Delhi Assembly elections, which will decide the 70-member House, concluded with a turnout of 57.70% recorded by 5 PM. The final voter turnout will be updated by the Election Commission of India shortly.
Among the various districts, North-East Delhi has shown the highest participation, with a remarkable 63.83% of eligible voters casting their ballots so far. This is followed closely by Shahdara, where the voting percentage has reached 61.35%. Other notable areas include East Delhi with 58.98% turnout, and North-West Delhi at 58.05%. South-West Delhi also saw a turnout of 58.86%.
On the lower end, South-East Delhi is recording the smallest turnout so far, at 53.77%, while New Delhi has seen 54.37% of voters casting their votes by the evening hour. The Central Delhi constituency has posted a voting percentage of 55.24%, while North Delhi shows 57.24%, West Delhi stands at 57.42%.
Delhi is witnessing a fierce three-way contest between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress. The ruling AAP, which is facing corruption allegations, is vying for a third consecutive term, while both the BJP and Congress are determined to seize power from the incumbent government. The results will be declared on February 8.
