Court Grants 5-Day Police Custody in Saif Ali Khan Attack Case Amid Cells for Deeper Probe
A Mumbai court on Friday remanded the accused in the Saif attack case to five days of police custody, citing the need for further investigation. During the hearing before Judge Komal Singh Rajput, the public prosecutor argued that the case is of a serious nature and several aspects are still under investigation. The police have applied the Foreign Act and seized key evidence, including the weapon used in the crime, CCTV footage, and medical reports.
The police informed the court that further inquiry is required to determine the source of the weapon, identify potential accomplices, recover shoes worn during the crime, and verify the ownership of the SIM card used. They also sought custody to conduct facial recognition analysis to establish the accused’s involvement.
The defense lawyer opposed the custody, arguing that all key evidence had already been seized during the previous remand and that the arrest was illegal. They highlighted discrepancies in the CCTV footage, claiming it does not match the accused, and questioned the police’s earlier claims of international connections, which remain unproven.
Taking note of the gravity of the incident, the court directed the police to proceed with their investigation and gather more evidence.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for January 29.
