Congress announces its first list of 39 candidates for Lok Sabha 2024 Elections
Congress on Friday released its first list of nominations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The old party released a list of 39 candidates that includes Rahul Gandhi from his Wayanad seat, Dr Sahshi Tharoor from Thiruvanantapuram, and the former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel from the Rajnandangaon Constituency.
Senior Congress leader DK Suresh is set to run for election from the Bangalore Rural constituency, while K Sudhakaran will contest in Kannur. KC Venugopal, the Congress general secretary, will be vying for a seat in Alappuzha. However, it remains unclear if Rahul Gandhi will run also from Amethi, like in 2019, alongside his candidacy in Wayanad, Kerala.
Among the 39 candidates fielded by the grand old party, 15 belong to the general caste, while the remaining 24 hail from SC/ST/minority communities. The bulk of the nominations, totaling 16 are from Kerala. A total of 7 candidates have been fielded from Karnataka, while 6 candidates have been announced from Chhattisgarh and 4 from Telangana.
