CBI arrests ED assistant director while accepting Rs 20 Lakh Bribe; Opposition says “Waqt Badal Gaya Hai”
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Thursday, arrested an Assistant Director rank officer of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) from Lajpat Nagar in Delhi on charges of bribery. The officer identified as Sandeep Singh Yadav was caught red handed, allegedly, while receiving a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from a Mumbai-based jeweller.
Interestingly the ED had conducted raids at the premises of the Mumbai-based jeweller on August 3rd and 4th, later which the accused ED officer Sandeep Singh Yadav had allegedly threatened the jeweller to pay the bribe amount of Rs 20 lakh or else he will be implicated in a false case, claimed a CBI official. The jeweller had then, as per sources, had reached out to the CBI.
Previously, in August 2023 CBI had arrested an Assistant Director of ED along with six other officials for allegedly extorting Rs 5 crore from a businessman after probing him in connection with the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.
Taking a dig at the Centre, opposition Trinamool Congress posted on ‘X’: “The Central Agencies who tried to wrongfully target opposition leaders at the behest of BJP are now running behind each other, alleging fraud and corruption. WAQT BADAL GAYA HAI”.
