California Wildfires Leave Los Angeles Looking Like a "War Zone" as Destruction Spreads
The ongoing wildfires in California have left large areas of Los Angeles looking as if they had been "bombed", with destruction continuing for a third straight day on Thursday. Firefighters are still struggling to control the blazes that have ravaged vast stretches of land.
One neighborhood, as reported by The Associated Press, was so badly destroyed that it could only be recognized by the outlines of its streets, with every home reduced to ashes. Another area resembled a “patchwork,” where some houses were still standing while others had been completely destroyed by the flames.
Residents returning to their homes after evacuation found nothing but devastation. Charred remains of buildings were all that was left, with one home’s wreckage and a burnt outdoor fireplace standing beside a pool. The water in the pool had turned brown from the soot. In one heartbreaking scene, a couple stood in front of their smoldering home, while another person stood nearby, shielding their face as they stared at a house that resembled a bombed-out structure.
Throughout Los Angeles, fires continued to rage, with flames spreading across several localities. Despite the chaos, some people had no choice but to go about their daily lives, passing burning homes on their way to other destinations.
Meanwhile, another wildfire, named the “Kenneth Fire,” broke out near the boundary of Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Authorities have already issued mandatory evacuation orders for residents in the affected areas. “The Los Angeles Fire Department is issuing a mandatory evacuation order for all residents within this area,” the fire department stated in an alert.
