BRS MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy stabbed in Telangana while campaigning
Telangana MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi was stabbed on Monday while campaigning in the Surampalli village of Doulatabad, Siddipet district in Telangana. The MP was on his way to a pastor's house when the attack by an unnamed assailant and stabbed in his stomach. He was then rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he was reported to be out of danger.
“MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy is safe. The incident took place in Surampally village of the Daulatabad mandal. He has been shifted to Gajwel. The alleged accused is in custody, we are investigating the matter” said N Swetha, Siddipet Commissioner of Police.
An unnamed individual approached him and appeared to want to shake hands with the leader. The assailant then abruptly pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the stomach. The attacker was caught and then beaten up by BRS workers present at the campaign rally, and then he was handed over to the police.
Reddy represents the state's Medak parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha. The K Chandrasekhara Rao-led BRS has chosen him as their candidate from Dubbak constituency in the upcoming Assembly Elections. The MP suffered stomach injuries and was sent to Gajwel government hospital.
According to police, an investigation into the incident has begun. Local media has identified the attacker as Raju, a native of the Chepyal village. The reason for the attack has so far not been revealed.
The attack on the BRS MP comes exactly a month before elections in the poll-bound state, scheduled on November 30.
