BJP MP Nishikant Dubey Demands Privilege Proceedings against Rahul Gandhi over Alleged Distortions in Lok Sabha Speech
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, urging him to initiate Privilege Proceedings against Congress leader and Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi. Dubey’s letter accuses Gandhi of distorting historical facts and attempting to undermine the dignity of the country and its Republic.
In the letter, Dubey alleges that Gandhi's speech in the Lok Sabha not only "shamelessly distorted historical and substantive facts" but also "made an attempt to ridicule our country and lower the prestige of our Republic." He called for immediate action against Gandhi for his comments and highlighted that the records and proceedings of Parliament serve as proof of Gandhi’s "callous and irresponsible attitude."
Rahul Gandhi raised several issues during his speech in Parliament on Monday, including allegations of China encroaching on Indian territory in the Eastern regions and concerns over the appointment process of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and other Election Commissioners.
According to Dubey, Gandhi’s speech was filled with misinformation. "While raising these issues, Rahul Gandhi has not only shamelessly distorted the historical and substantive facts but also made an attempt to ridicule our country and lowering the prestige of our Republic," Dubey’s letter reads.
Furthermore, Dubey accused Gandhi of misusing the freedom of speech guaranteed under Article 105 of the Indian Constitution, which grants members of Parliament the right to speak freely in the House. Dubey stressed that Gandhi did not provide any evidence to support his claims and failed to authenticate the allegations he made during his speech.
"To the best of my knowledge, this 'erudite' person has neither authenticated his gibberish canards nor apologized for using the pious forum of Parliament to defame our country and the elected government," Dubey wrote in his letter.
During the debate on the President's Address, Rahul Gandhi claimed that China has been able to encroach upon Indian land because of the failure of the 'Make in India' initiative. Gandhi further questioned the government’s stance on Chinese forces being present in India, saying, "The Prime Minister has denied that Chinese forces are inside our territory, but for some reason, our Army keeps talking to the Chinese about their entry into our territory. The Chief of Army Staff has said that the Chinese are inside our territory."
Rahul Gandhi also raised concerns about the removal of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) from the selection committee that recommends the appointments of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners. He referred to this move as a "calculated strategy."
