BJP MLA Nitesh Rane Urges Burqa Ban at 10th & 12th Board Exams, Writes to Education Minister Dada Bhuse
Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Nitesh Rane has urged state Education Minister Dada Bhuse to impose a ban on wearing burqas at examination centres for the 10th and 12th board exams, citing concerns over possible cheating. In a letter sent on Wednesday, Rane highlighted the need for uniform regulations for all students, regardless of religion.
Emphasizing the government’s Hindutva ideology, he stated that the Mahayuti-led administration in Maharashtra would not permit what he termed as "appeasement politics." He added that while individuals are free to wear burqas or hijabs at home, they should not be allowed at examination centres.
“Our government, which follows Hindutva ideology, will not tolerate the politics of appeasement. The rules applicable to Hindu students should be the same for Muslim students. Those who wish to wear a burqa or hijab can do so at home, but during exams, they should adhere to the same dress code as other students,” said Rane, who serves as the Minister for Fisheries and Ports.
Explaining the rationale behind his request, Rane pointed to past incidents where students allegedly used burqas to cheat during exams.
“There have been cases where students wearing burqas were involved in cheating and copying. Such practices should not be allowed in Maharashtra, which is why I have written to the concerned minister,” he said.
