The two-term BJP MP of Rajasthan’s Churu, Rahul Kaswan jumped ships and joined the Congress. Kaswan was welcomed into the Grand Old Party in the presence of President Mallikarjun Kharge at the party headquarters in Delhi. This comes after the former BJP MP had expressed his discontentment over not receiving a party ticket to contest in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. Instead, the BJP has nominated Devendra Jhajharia for the Churu seat.

In the first list released by the saffron party on March 2, the nominees of 15 out of 25 of Rajasthan’s Lok Sabha seats were revealed. The list featured four Union ministers and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. However, incumbent MPs such as Rahul Kaswan (Churu), Ranjita Koli (Bharatpur), Devji Patel (Jalore), Arjun Lal Meena (Udaipur), and Kanakmal Katara (Banswara) did not make it to the list.

Taking to the social media platform “X”, the former Churu MP expressed his discontentment through a series of tweets. “Was I not honest? Was I not a hard worker? Was I not loyal? Was I tainted? Had I left any stone unturned in getting the work done in Churu Lok Sabha?” questioned Kaswan in one of his posts.

Rahul Kaswan on Monday thanked the BJP central leadership before parting ways with the saffron party. “In accordance with the sentiments of all of you, I am going to take a big decision in public life. Due to political reasons, at this very moment today, I am resigning from the primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the post of Member of Parliament. All Bharatiya Janata Party, National President Shri J.P. I express my gratitude to Nadda ji, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and Shri Amit Shah ji, who gave me the opportunity to serve the Churu Lok Sabha family for 10 years,” posted Kaswan.
