The Special People Representative Court in Bengaluru on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of the now-suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, who is facing charges of rape and sexual harassment in multiple cases. The Bengaluru Court added 376 of the IPC and decided against granting bail owing to the gravity of the charges leveled against him.

Prajwal Revanna has been named in several cases of rape and sexual abuse filed by multiple women at Holenarasipura police station. His father HD Revanna has been named in some of them. As per reports, another case has been registered against Prajwal Revanna in addition to the cases pertaining to sexual harassment, stalking and criminal intimidation. Alongside him, former BJP MLA Hassan Preetham Gowda has also been named in a FIR for allegedly sharing images captured by Prajwal during the sexual harassment of the victim on a video call. The police have said that the case has been registered under sections 355 A (sexual harassment), 354 B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 354 D (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and 66 E (punishment for violation of privacy) of the Information Technology Act.

The 33-year-old is currently held in custody by a Special Investigation Team(SIT), which was set up to investigate allegations of his involvement in a sex scandal. Several explicit videos purportedly showing him surfaced days after the 2nd phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Revanna was arrested on May 31 soon after he returned from Germany.

The cases of sexual abuse came to light when pen drives containing explicit videos, allegedly involving Revanna, were circulated in Hassan. The Janata Dal-Secular suspended him from the party after the scandal surfaced. Following the departure of Prajwal Revanna for Germany, Interpol issued a 'Blue Corner Notice' at the request of the SIT through the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to locate him. Prajwal Revanna’s brother, Suraj Revanna has also been arrested on charges of sexually abusing multiple women.
