Bengal Man Suffers Cardiac Arrest During SIR Hearing, Declared Dead at Hospital

An elderly man died after suffering a cardiac arrest while attending hearing related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Birbhum district of West Bengal on Saturday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Kanchan Kumar Mondal, a resident of Saradapally, Manasha Tola, Ward No. 13 under Rampurhat Municipality in Birbhum. According to sources, Mondal had received a notice for an SIR hearing and reported to the Rampurhat–I Block Office in compliance with the notice.
Mondal arrived at the hearing center earlier in the day with all the documents asked from him. He looked for room where the hearing for his part number was underway. While present at the block office, Mondal suddenly fell ill. He was immediately taken to Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital; however, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

“The deceased, Kanchan Mondal, was present for his due (SIR) hearing. He rode his cycle to the center. He was hale and hearty. Mondal came in the morning and asked people around about his queue. Suddenly, he fell ill. Then he was declared dead on being brought to the hospital,” said Bijoy Krishna Mondal, local TMC Councillor.

Family members of the deceased claimed that Mondal had been under mental stress after receiving the SIR notice and alleged that anxiety related to the hearing may have contributed to the cardiac arrest; they said refusing to appear on camera.
