Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy Injured in Stone Pelting Incident during Vijayawada Roadshow
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy sustained injuries during a roadshow in Vijayawada on Saturday when stones were hurled by unidentified persons, with one striking him. The stone struck Reddy above his left eyebrow, causing a minor cut. Reddy received medical attention in a bus and continued his campaign, titled 'Memantha Siddham Bus Yatra'. The incident also left Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) MLA Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao injured. The incident occurred during Reddy's ongoing bus yatra, part of his election campaign spanning from Kadapa to coastal Andhra Pradesh.
The YSRCP alleged involvement of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers in the attack. The incident took place in Singh Nagar area of Vijayawada, where power outage coincided with the attack, as stated by YSRCP leaders. Former minister Perni Nani labeled it as a deliberate act by Reddy's opponents, unable to tolerate his massive public support. The incident occurred as Reddy's bus yatra entered Vijayawada from Guntur.
The police have initiated an investigation into the incident, as the YSRCP demanded accountability from Naidu for the violence. In response, Naidu urged an unbiased inquiry, emphasizing the need for accountability. "I strongly condemn the attack on @ysjagan. I request the @ECISVEEP to initiate an impartial and unbiased inquiry into the incident and punish the responsible officials," said Naidu.
Soon after the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi came out in support of the YRS Chief and prayed for his speedy recovery. "I pray for the speedy recovery and good health of Andhra Pradesh CM @ysjagan Garu," posted PM Modi on social media platform "X".
"I am shocked to hear about the attack on @ysjagan ji. Praying for his speedy recovery," posted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader KT Rama Rao also condemned the attack, urging strict preventive measures by the Election Commission of India. "Glad you are Safe. Take care @ysjagan Anna. Strongly condemn the attack on AP CM Jaganmohan Reddy Garu. Violence has no place in democracy and I hope strict preventive measures are put in place by ECI," posted KTR.
