“An AAP-da…”: Modi Launches Scathing Attack on Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party Ahead of Delhi Election

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on opposition parties, particularly targeting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly election. His comments came during a discussion in Parliament in response to President Droupadi Murmu’s address last week.
In his speech, Modi took a dig at what he described as the focus of "some political leaders" on "jacuzzis and stylish showers." This remark was widely interpreted as a reference to Kejriwal and the allegations that he spent ₹45 crore of taxpayer money on luxury fittings and furnishings for the bungalow he occupied as Chief Minister, which was reportedly dubbed 'sheeshmahal'.
“Some leaders are focusing on jacuzzis and stylish showers… but our focus is on getting water connections in every home,” Modi said, contrasting his government's priorities with those of his rivals. He went on to highlight his administration’s achievements, pointing out that under the BJP's leadership, “our government gave tap water to 12 crore families.”
Modi also accused the AAP of failing to deliver on its pre-election promises. He used the BJP’s record in Haryana as an example of his party’s commitment to its promises. “The country has seen how we function. We promised jobs and, as soon as our Haryana government was formed, we gave jobs as promised,” he said. The Prime Minister also pointed to BJP's success in the Maharashtra and Haryana elections last year, which he described as "landslide wins" for his party.
Further criticising the AAP's handling of youth issues, Modi remarked, “We focus on youth but some betray them. This group, during elections, promises many things but doesn’t fulfil them. This group is an 'AAP-da' on youth's future…”
