Amit Shah Promises UCC in Jharkhand To Check Infiltration; “What Is Sheikh Hasina Doing In India”, Hemant Soren Questions
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will implement Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Jharkhand if voted to power, announced Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday during the release of the party's manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections. Shah, however emphasised that the tribal community would be excluded from the UCC's provisions. He stressed that the principal objective UCC would aim to achieve will be to check on “infiltration from Bangladesh”.
“Hemant Babu, Uniform Civil Code will indeed be implemented in Jharkhand, but we will ensure that the identity and heritage of tribal communities are fully protected. While the UCC will be introduced, the tribal population will remain outside its scope,” Shah said while accusing the Hemant Soren government of being soft on infiltrators for the sake of political gains. He accused illegal Bangladeshi immigrants of grabbing tribal land in garb of love followed by marriage with tribal women. Amit Shah assured that tribal land will be taken back from the ‘infiltrators”.
“We have halted infiltration menace in Assam and we will do it here as well. If a BJP government is formed in Jharkhand, we will drive out these infiltrators. We will enact laws to reclaim land that has been taken from tribals. Like UCC has been implemented in Uttarakhand, similarly it will be done here in Jharlkhand”, he added.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren was quick to hit back. From a political rally at Ranka in Garhwa Assembly seat Soren raked up the contentious issue of political asylum India has grated to former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Hasina, has been in India, in exile, since August 2024 after her government was ousted following massive pubic movement.
“What sort of understanding India has with Bangladesh? On what basis have you allowed asylum to Sheikh Hasina while trying to fight back infiltration? Infiltration is happening through BJP ruled states” Hemant Soren questioned.
BJP in its manifesto has also promised transparent recruitment processes for 287,500 government positions, assuring that the recruitment initiative would commence at the first Cabinet meeting if the BJP is elected. Furthermore, the party plans to introduce a “Yuva Saathi” allowance of Rs 2,000 per month for two years for every graduate and postgraduate youth in Jharkhand who is seeking employment.
In an outreach to women, the BJP also proposed the ‘Gogo Didi’ Yojana, which would provide monthly financial assistance of up to Rs 2,100 to every woman in the state. Additionally, they plan to roll out the Laxmi Johar Yojana, offering LPG gas cylinders at a subsidized rate of Rs 500, along with two complimentary cylinders each year on Diwali and Raksha Bandhan.
