Amidst 'warnings' from the USA, Kim Jong Un and Putin to meet later this week
On Tuesday, a train carrying North Korea's Kim Jong Un is believed to have entered Russia ahead of his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin later this week. This is the first time the North Korean leader has visited another country in four years. Their meeting is rumored to be focused on exchanging arms and ammunition. Russia is expected to request antitank missiles and artillery shells from North Korea, while North Korea would seek nuclear-powered submarine technology and advanced satellite-making technology.
"Obviously, as neighbors, our countries also cooperate in sensitive areas that should not be the subject of public disclosure and announcements. This is perfectly normal for neighboring states," said Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov to the Russian media. He further stated that the two leaders would be discussing 'sensitive subjects' that would play a key role in their nation-building strategies.
It is important to note that the United States of America warned North Korea over talks with Russia. Washington stated that North Korea would have to 'pay a price' if Russia was inundated by arms and ammunition in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. However, the Kremlin Spokesman dismissed these warnings and said that in building their relations with their neighbors, including North Korea, the interests of their two countries were the most important, not Washington's warnings.
