Alleged gang-rape of 16-Year-Old in Ladnun sparks protests, 3 arrested
A 16-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and gang-raped in Rajasthan’s Ladnun on Sunday. The minor was reportedly pushed out of their vehicle near her house after sundown, informed the police on Tuesday. Opposition BJP has brought the incumbent Congress government under the spot over the incident, in the poll-bound state.
The prime suspects, identified as Jasaram, 38, and Mahaveer, 34, have been arrested in connection to this case. Shambhu Singh, the SHO of Ladnun stated that the third suspect is a 16-year-old who has been detained and is treated in adherence to the law for juvenile offenders.
The 16-year-old went missing on Sunday. The girl’s father returned to an empty house and found the main gate of the house open. Soon, while on a search mission to find his daughter, the father reportedly saw a car pushing someone out in their lane. The father rushed closer and upon closer inspection, he saw that it was his daughter.
An FIR was filed by the survivor’s family on Monday morning. “A case was filed against the accused under sections 376 D (gangrape), 363 (abduction) of the Indian Penal Code, and the relevant sections of the Pocso Act. The medical test of the girl was also done; the report is awaited,” said Sambhu Singh, the SHO of Ladnun.
The news of the gang rape spread like wildfire and sparked off massive protests all across poll-bound Rajasthan. The people staged protests, donning placards and amidst fervent sloganeering, demanding justice for the minor.
Leaders of the BJP criticized the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government of the state for their alleged apathy towards the condition of the women and children of the state. They also stated that if the BJP came to power in the state, the condition of women would exponentially improve in Rajasthan. The state is scheduled to go for voting on November 25, with the results being tallied on December 3.
