"Abhishek is innocent, they are harassing him", says Mamata
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the Union Government, accusing them of using the Enforcement Directorate to summon Abhishek Banerjee on the same day as the first coordination meeting of the Opposition Bloc INDIA. She called it a "political vendetta" and urged the government to keep their power in check as the tables may turn in the future.
"They keep disturbing Abhishek. He is constantly running to the courts seeking justice. They are unnecessarily harassing him without any evidence." said CM Mamata Banerjee stating that the summon is a deliberate attempt to tarnish Abhishek's image.
The Enforcement Directorate had summoned Abhishek Banerjee for questioning on September 13 in connection with alleged lapses in the recruitment of staff in government schools of West Bengal. However, Banerjee was supposed to attend the first meeting of the Coordination Committee of the Opposition Alliance INDIA on the same day.
Taking to X, Abhishek Banerjee criticized the summon, stating that it was served to him conveniently just now, on the same day he was supposed to attend the meeting. "FIRST meet of INDIA’s coordination comm is on 13th Sept in Delhi, where I'm a member. But, @dir_ed conveniently served me a notice just now to appear before them on the VERY SAME DAY! One can't help but marvel at the TIMIDITY & VACUOSNESS of the 56-inch chest model. #FearofINDIA", tweeted Banerjee.
Without naming the Prime Minister, Abhishek Banerjee accused the Union Government of acting out of the "fear of India" and stopping him from attending the meeting. He further stated that this was an example of the "timidity and vacuousness of the 56-inch chest model."
Several leaders of the Opposition Bloc have previously alleged that the ruling BJP Government has been using central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation to hinder their activities and interfere in the matters of the state.
