Abhishek Banerjee Files Nomination for Diamond Harbour, Eyes Third Consecutive Win
Trinamool Congress National General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee filed his nomination papers for the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency on Friday. Seeking a third consecutive term, Banerjee accompanied by other Trinamool Congress leaders and supporters submitted his candidacy at the district collector's office in Alipore.
"With the blessings of the people, I submitted my nomination to the District Magistrate's office today. Trinamool Congress has at all times worked towards the welfare of the people, and I hope that the people give me another chance to serve them this time," said Banerjee after he submitted his nomination papers. Abhishek Banerjee undertook a padayatra from his residence to the District Magistrate's office, accompanied by other TMC leaders and party workers and supporters.
Banerjee, who secured victory in his 2014 debut in the Lok Sabha polls with a margin exceeding 70,000 votes, reinforced his dominance in 2019, triumphing over the BJP candidate by a staggering 3.20 lakh votes. In the 2021 Assembly elections, all seven segments falling under the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat were clinched by the Trinamool Congress.
This time around, the BJP has nominated Abhijit Das, former party president of Diamond Harbour, as their contender for the seat. Das, who contested unsuccessfully in two previous Lok Sabha polls, including one against Banerjee in 2014, hopes to challenge the Trinamool Congress stronghold. Meanwhile, the CPI(M) has put forward Pratikur Rahaman as their candidate for the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha Constituency. The electoral showdown is scheduled for June 1st in Diamond Harbour, with the results being declared on June 4.
