AAP and Congress Finalise a Seat Sharing Deal for Delhi and Beyond
The Aam Aadmi Party and Congress on Saturday sealed the seat-sharing deal for Delhi ahead of the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In addition, both parties have agreed to a seat-sharing consensus in Gujarat, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Goa. However, the Aam Admi Party will be going solo as far as Punjab is concerned.
Agreeing to a 4:3 formula, the Aam Aadmi Party will contest four seats, while the Congress will contest in the remaining three. Congress general secretary and MP Mukul Wasnik announced that Congress will field candidates in North East, Chandni Chowk, and North West, while the AAP will field candidates in New Delhi, East Delhi, West Delhi, and South Delhi seats.
It is important to note that in both the 2014 and 2019 general elections, the BJP won all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. In the 2019 elections, the Congress secured second place in five seats - East Delhi, West Delhi, New Delhi, North East Delhi, and Chandni Chowk, while the AAP came second in two seats - North West Delhi and South Delhi.
Both INDIA alliance partners have also reached an agreement on seat-sharing in Gujarat, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Goa. In Gujarat, the AAP will contest two seats - Bharuch and Bhavnagar. In Haryana, the AAP will contest one seat - Kurukshetra. Congress in turn will contest the single seat in Chandigarh, and in Goa, the Congress will contest both seats.
