‘A day of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual recovery’, student sends an email to the authorities demanding a leave in light of India’s ‘devastating loss’
Team India lost the title of ‘World Champions’ after their defeat against Australia at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, on Sunday. The soul-crushing defeat left all of India, a nation that treats the sport as a religion, shell-shocked and dumbfounded. The general air of dissapointment and of utter disbelief of all cricket fans was palpable from all of social media posts that inundated the various platforms. To deal with the lingering after-taste of defeat on the following day, a student sent an email to the autorities requesting for a leave on Monday for ‘of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual recovery’ following India’s ‘devastating loss’ went viral on social media.
Shared by an account named ‘@lawyerussy’ on social media platform ‘X’, the email led with the subject line, “Demand for emotional recovery in light of today’s devastating loss.” “Fellow students, I write this with a heavy heart, almost too difficult to type. I regret to remind you of today’s devastating loss in the world cup finals. However in the larger interest of the student body this issue must be addressed. I request for Monday the 20th of November 2023 to be a day of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual recovery. As such we want all classes to be cancelled. Let the outpour of support be the merits of my request. Time heals all wounds,” read the body of the email that made all netizens resonate the mounting dissapointment of the student. A comment under the post said ‘only happens in NLS’, indicative of the fact that the email was sent by a student of the National Law School.
The heartfelt request for the ‘time needed to heal the wounds’ of defeat was not just limited to this particular educational of the country. The DAV Public School in Sector 14, Faridabad in a statement released on November 17, gave the students an option to postpone an internal assessment after receiving numerous requests from the student body. Subsequently, the test originally scheduled on November 20, was rescheduled on the following day.
