#नरेंद्र_मोदी_इस्तीफा_दो (Narendra Modi Resign) trends on ‘X’ with over fifty thousand users flooding the social media platform with their tweets, over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tweet extending support to Israel, ‘but had stayed silent on India’s Manipur crisis.’ Drawing parallels between the war-like situation in Israel and the strife-torn state of Manipur, the Twitteratis demand the Prime Minister’s resignation for being vocal about the former while allegedly being ‘apathetic and shunning the latter.’
“Deeply shocked by the news of terrorist attacks in Israel. Our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families. We stand in solidarity with Israel at this difficult hour.” said Prime Minister Modi after Hamas’s attack on Israel claimed 700 lives on Saturday. However, Manipur marred by violence and grappling with the crisis for over four months, hasn’t sufficiently been addressed by the Prime Minister of the country, say the users. Social media went abuzz debating the ‘misplaced priorities of PM Modi’ and if ‘Manipur was any less important than Israel.’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about Manipur on August 10, while responding to the ‘No Confidence Motion’ by the Opposition, inside the parliament, incidentally, it was the 100th day since the violence broke out in Manipur on May 3.
“Stand in solidarity with Israel but failed to save Manipur which is a part of India”, stated an ‘X’ user Dipankar Kumar Das. Twitteratis have taken to the social media platform bringing the Prime Minister’s alleged selective activism under fire. #नरेंद्र_मोदी_इस्तीफा_दो (Narendra Modi Resign) has been trending on ‘X’ where the users have demanded Narendra Modi’s resignation for his silence over the Manipur issue that the north-eastern state has been struggling with for over four months. ‘X’ users have alleged that PM Modi has extended his support to the people of Israel while his own countrymen continue to suffer owing to the ongoing violence in Manipur.
Posts such as “Stand with Israel but leave Manipur in riots! Narendra Modiji are you the Prime Minister of India or Israel?” by Syed Mohd Subhan and “Where are those who shed crocodile tears on Israel still silent on Manipur? Is Manipur not a part of the country?” by Janvi Mishra, have flooded ‘X’. Thousands of other users have asked similar questions to the Prime Minister. Tweeteratis have also parallelly shared images of the war-like situation in Israel and Manipur violence, demanding an answer from PM Modi.
Taking a swipe at the Prime Minister’s election campaign for BJP in poll-bound Rajasthan, a poster has been widely circulated on ‘X’ under the same hashtag, #नरेंद्र_मोदी_इस्तीफा_दो (Narendra Modi Resign), where users have stated that the Prime Minister has visited the election-bound state of Rajasthan 9 times in the last 11 months, however, he has not set foot in Manipur since the violence that has claimed hundreds of lives broke out. In addition, questions have also been raised on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s alleged silence on the deaths in the hospitals of Maharashtra or the deaths in the Sikkim floods, but it has been highlighted by the users that the PM has extended his support to Israel, while his countrymen endure the agony of the aforementioned issues.
