6.1 magnitude earthquake rocks Afghanistan, sends tremors through Delhi and parts of Northern India
Delhi and its neighboring areas experienced earthquake tremors following a 6.1 magnitude earthquake that jolted Afghanistan on Thursday. The earthquake tremors were also felt in the National Capital Region, encompassing Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurugram.
The National Center for Seismology reported that the epicenter of the tremors was located in Afghanistan. "Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.1, Occurred on 11-01-2024, 14:50:24 IST, Lat: 36.48 & Long: 70.45, Depth: 220 Km, Location: Afghanistan," they posted on “X”. The earthquake's epicenter was situated 241 kilometers north-northeast of Kabul, Afghanistan.
The earthquake tremors were also felt in Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Punjab, and various other northern regions of India.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department also recorded a 6.0-magnitude earthquake in certain areas of Pakistan around 2:20 pm. The epicenter of this seismic activity was identified in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. According to Pakistani media, the tremors were also felt in cities like Lahore, Islamabad, and those in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
As of now, there have been no reports of casualties or damage to property.
