4 dead and over 25 injured after 6 coaches of the 12506, North East Express, going from Anand Vihar Terminal to Kamakhya derailed near the Raghunathpur station on Wednesday night. The Bihar Police, SDRF and NDRF teams have reached the accident spot and rescue missions are underway.

The Ministry of Railways have confirmed that 6 coaches of the 12506 (Anand Vihar Terminal to Kamakhya) Express, passing through the DN mainline of the Rahunathpur station, have derailed. "Rescue operation going on at war footing at Buxar derailment site. NDRF, SDRF, District administration, Railway officials, and local residents are all working as one team. Injured shifted to hospital. War room operating", said Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The Railway Minister has further stated that the rescue operations will be completed soon, restoration of the track will begin immediately after that.

"All people have been rescued. Around 25-30 are injured and have been sent to hospital and one has died. We are unable to check one coach and effort is underway to check that coach.” Buxar SP, Manish Kumar has said. “We have received information that about 4-5 people have died”, said the Buxar DM Anshul Agarwal.

“A train going from Delhi to Kamakhya met with a tragic accident near Buxar. We have talked to the health department, disaster department officials and district magistrates. Alert has been issued to hospitals of Buxar, Arrah and Patna. Bihar Police and SDRF have also been sent to the spot. Our priority is to save lives of as many people as possible. We have also issued helpline numbers. Bihar Government is actively engaged in rescue, relief and treatment work for the victims and injured of the train accident”, said Bihar Deputy Chief Minister, Tejashwi Yadav, assuring speedy relief to the victims.

In the meantime, Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sharma’s office has said that the ‘unfortunate derailment’ is being ‘closely monitored’ by them. “Chief Minister’s Office is closely monitoring the unfortunate derailment of Train Number 12506 in Raghunathpur and is in touch with the District authorities in Buxar and other agencies”, said the statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office.

“As soon as we got information about the train derailment in Raghunathpur, the district administration is on alert mode. We sent 15 ambulances, 4-5 buses. SDRF team has been sent. All necessary arrangements have been made to provide treatment to the injured. Doctors have been called. The blood bank has been opened”, said Raj Kumar, DM Bhojpur. Rescue operations are underway and further details waited.
