A 20-year-old, second-year medical student of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was found dead in her room at the ESI staff quarters in Kamarhati on Thursday night. The student lived with her mother who works as a doctor at the local ESI Hospital.

When the mother received no response after knocking on the door several times, she forced the door open and found her daughter’s body. In a state of distress, the mother, along with neighbors, rushed the student to the emergency ward at ESI Hospital in Kamarhati, where she was declared dead by doctors.

The body was later sent for a post-mortem examination, and the Kamarhati police registered a case of unnatural death. However, no suicide note was found in the room, and the family has not filed a formal complaint. Authorities are continuing their investigation, awaiting the results of the post-mortem report.

The police indicated that the student had been living with her mother at the hospital quarters, while her father, a bank official, is stationed in Mumbai. Preliminary reports suggest that the student may have been battling depression, which has led to speculations of suicide.
