2 more MPs suspended from the Lok Sabha, a total of 143 Opposition MPs suspended for the remainder of the winter session
2 more Opposition MPs were suspended by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday for alleged “misconduct” in the House, taking the total suspension tally to a staggering 143 MPs who have been suspended from the Houses for the remainder of the Winter Session of the Parliament. Thomas Chazhikadan and AM Ariff were suspended today after the Lok Sabha adopted a resolution passed by Pralhad Joshi.
Following the massive Parliament security breach on December 13, the Opposition MPs have been persistent in their demand for a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the floor of the House. An Opposition uproar has greeted the sessions of the Parliament, the MPs made their way to the well of the House, holding placards and chanting slogans, demanding accountability from the Union Government.
The series of suspensions were triggered by the suspension of TMC MP Derek O’Brien, following which, 13 MPs of the Lok Sabha were suspended. In another round of suspensions, 78 MPs were suspended, the suspension of 49 Opposition MPs quickly followed that up, and on Wednesday, in a fresh round of suspensions, 2 more MPs were suspended. 97 MPs have been suspended from the Lok Sabha, and 46 from the Rajya Sabha, all in all, a total of 142 MPs have been suspended for the remainder of the winter session of the Parliament.
