An eighteen year Dalit woman was allegedly pushed into boiling sugarcane juice while attempting to resist her molesters on Wednesday. The shocking alleged incident happened inside a jaggery processing unit at Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh, came to light after the victim’s family had put out a video narrating the ordeal. The woman has sustained fifty percent burnt injuries on her face, hands and lower abdomen area. She has been shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital in Delhi for further treatment, reportedly critical, claimed the family members.

The brother of the survivor has lodged a police complaint on Saturday, December 30, against three accused that included the owner of the factory who is 40 years old, his aide and another worker at the crusher. All three have been arrested and sent to jail, confirmed police. "The matter came to fore on Saturday when the victim's family had put out the video. All three have been arrested. The aide of the owner is 45 years. They have been booked under sections 354 (assaulting a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 504 (intentional insult), 307 (attempt to murder) and relevant sections of the SC/ST Act”, said Baghpat SP Arpit Vijayvargiya

The family of the survivor from Muzaffarnagar confirmed that she was a worker at the sugarcane crusher unit at Dhanaura village. According to the complaint the main accused was the 22 year old man, another worker at the crusher who attempted to molest the woman and he was later joined by the owner of the unit and his aide. As the woman tried resisting them, she was allegedly pushed into the boiling sugarcane juice cauldron. She was first taken to village health centre with severe burns on her body and from there shifted to the Delhi hospital.
