13,167 Police Personnel posts vacant in Delhi Police, reveals RTI
More than thirteen thousand posts of police personnel vacant in Delhi Police, revealed a RTI response. According to a response to a Right to Information query filed by activist Ajay Basudev Bose, the office of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Head Quarter) has confirmed that as on February 19, 2024 there were total 13,167 posts vacant of police officers that included 9465 constables.
The RTI revealed that total 189 positions of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) are lying vacant while there are 29 posts for Inspectors vacant. While the count of empty constable posts is staggeringly high, there are 1201 posts of head constables also lying vacant along with 1320 posts of Assistant Sub inspector, according to the RTI response dated February 19, 2024.
Delhi police comes under the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the home ministry is yet to react on the RTI response.
According to the Delhi police website, one sub-inspector was recruited in the month of February 2024 against a vacancy withheld in January 2024. It was a provincial appointment pending verification. Similarly only two people were recruited in February 2024 for the post of constable in Delhi police. The website of Delhi police also shows that in the year 2023 total 6854 people including men and women were shortlisted for the post of constable in Delhi police, the list for which was published in January 2024. However, in February according to office of Addl. Commissioner Of Police, recruitment only 7 people were finally selected for the posts of Constable as on February 8, 2024.
