A 10th-standard student of Silver Point High School in Kolkata died on Monday after allegedly falling from the fifth floor of the school building. The victim’s family alleged that his son was tortured and murdered by the school authorities.

The police said that the incident happened in the afternoon and afterwards the victim was taken to the AMRI Mukundapur hospital where he was declared dead.

The family said that the student was allegedly humiliated and punished severely for not being able to submit a project on time. Allegedly, the student was taken to the fifth floor by a teacher. The family has demanded an investigation into the issue. No reaction has come from the school authorities yet.

The family of the victim alleged that the victim had no broken bones even after falling from such a height, but was bleeding from his mouth and ears. The victim’s father said, “During the pandemic, I had gathered a few guardians to demand a decrease in the school fees. Finally, they had to reduce the fees by 33%. But I was threatened by the headmistress after this incident. Since then I had feared for my child’s safety.” The father alleged, “I think my son was beaten to death by the school authorities… I asked them multiple times what exactly had happened. They kept telling me not to worry.” The father demanded to see the CCTV footage of the incident.

According to a neighbour of the victim, the school authorities had first informed the family that the kid had fallen from some stairs. Upon reaching the school, they came to know that the victim had fallen from the 5th floor of the school building.
