One arrested in connection with Kolkata RG Kar Doctor Rape and Murder
The Kolkata Police on Saturday arrested a suspect in connection with the mysterious death of a female postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. According to reports, the arrested person happens to be an outsider with unrestricted access to various hospital departments and is being questioned due to suspicious activities linked to the crime. The police have also added charges of rape and murder to the case.
The deceased, a second-year student of the chest medicine department, was found dead in the seminar hall of the government-run hospital on Friday morning. Her body, which was discovered by fellow students, showed signs of injury and was semi-nude. An initial autopsy report revealed that the victim had been sexually assaulted before her death.
In the wake of the incident, two intern doctors were questioned by police throughout Friday night as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have registered a murder case and established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the matter.
The death of a female student has sparked widespread protests in West Bengal. Medical students demanding justice have taken to the streets. BJP leader Amit Malviya criticized the Mamata Banerjee government, alleging attempts to downplay the crime and accusing the Kolkata Police of covering up the incident. The RG Kar Medical College students held a candle march in Kolkata, calling for a thorough and transparent investigation.
