Sanjay Raut Slams Mohan Bhagwat for Linking India's Independence to Ram Temple Consecration
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Tuesday criticized Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat over his recent remarks, calling it "wrong" to claim that India gained independence on the day the Ram temple was consecrated.
Raut stated that Bhagwat should refrain from using Lord Ram’s name for political purposes, adding that only then could India truly be considered independent.
“Mohan Bhagwat's claim that India achieved independence on that day is incorrect. Ram Lalla has been a part of this nation for thousands of years. We’ve led movements for Ram Lalla in the past, and we will continue to do so. Bhagwat should not engage in politics in the name of Ram Lalla. Only then will India experience true independence," Raut, a Rajya Sabha MP from Shiv Sena (UBT), told reporters.
He also emphasized that the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of the Ram temple was a matter of national pride, with contributions from various groups. Taking a swipe at Bhagwat, Raut pointed out that while the RSS chief was a respected figure, he was not the architect of the Indian Constitution.
"The RSS chief is certainly a person who is respected. But he is not the architect of the Indian Constitution. He does not make laws nor can he change them. The Pran Pratishtha of the Ram Temple was a moment of pride for the entire nation, with everyone contributing to the temple’s construction,” Raut added.
This statement came after Bhagwat’s comments on Monday, where he said that India’s traditions began with Lord Ram, Krishna, and Shiva. Bhagwat had also stated that India gained its "true independence" the day the Ram temple’s consecration ceremony took place, following centuries of persecution.
"Our tradition is one that began with Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, and Lord Shiva," Bhagwat had remarked while addressing a gathering in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. "India had gained independence, but it was not truly established until the Ram temple's 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony," he added.
