"Homes Set on Fire, Police Silent…”: PM Modi Blames TMC for Malda and Murshidabad Unrest

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, holding it responsible for the recent incidents of communal violence in West Bengal’s Malda and Murshidabad. Speaking at a public meeting in Alipurduar, he condemned the unrest as a clear sign of administrative failure and accused the state government of fostering an environment of lawlessness through appeasement politics.

“The incidents of violence in Malda and Murshidabad are clear examples of the ruthlessness of the state government,” Modi said, addressing a large crowd. “Life savings of the poor, of my mothers and sisters, were burnt to ashes in the riots. In the name of appeasement, the state government has given free rein to the goons and hooligans,” he added.

The Prime Minister alleged that the violence in these districts was not just the result of administrative negligence but of deliberate political complicity. He claimed that representatives of the ruling party were involved in identifying homes for targeted attacks during the unrest. “You can imagine the terrible condition of the people when representatives of the ruling dispensation are instrumental in identifying and setting fire to the homes of common people, and the police do nothing to tackle it,” he remarked. “I want to ask the bhadra-janta of Bengal, is this how the government should function?” he questioned.

Modi took a swipe at the TMC administration for what he described as a total breakdown of law and order, asserting that even the courts have had to intervene repeatedly to ensure basic justice and governance. “The ruthless state government does not care about such atrocities being meted upon the common people of Bengal. The court has to step in every now and then to take stock of the situation. No problems are solved without the court intervening,” he said.

Narendra Modi further claimed that public trust in the TMC had eroded completely. “The people of Bengal do not trust the Trinamool Congress government anymore,” he asserted.

In addition, PM Modi also used the occasion to reiterate his national vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’, a developed and prosperous India. He called on citizens across the country to unite in pursuit of this goal, saying it was the only way forward for regions like Bengal that are grappling with deep-rooted problems. “Various problems plague Bengal currently; we have to work together to secure the state’s future,” he emphasised. “We need a collective resolve to build a Viksit Bharat.”​
