“For farmers, not politics…”: Sharad Pawar Breaks Silence on Meeting with Ajit Pawar Amidst Rumors of NCP Merger

Amidst soaring rumors of major political realignments in Maharashtra, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar has finally broken his silence on speculations surrounding a potential reunion with his nephew and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. This comes alongside widespread discussions about the possible coming together of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray.

Addressing the media, Sharad Pawar clarified the nature of his meeting with Ajit Pawar. “We met purely in the interest of public welfare. The discussion focused on sugarcane cultivation and increasing agricultural productivity. Our aim is to involve the government in these issues. There’s nothing wrong in speaking with government representatives when it’s for the good of the people,” he said.

Pawar also highlighted a key initiative started in Baramati — the application of Artificial Intelligence in agriculture. “We’ve been studying AI for the last year and a half. While the technology benefits sectors like medicine, engineering, and finance, our primary focus is agriculture,” he explained.

He said the initiative began with sugarcane — a crop that requires a long cultivation cycle and high water usage. “The AI technology helps cut fertilizer use by 30 to 35 percent while preserving soil quality. It’s a game-changer for farmers,” Pawar added.

He further mentioned that several officials, including the Deputy Chief Minister, had visited Baramati to observe the project. “They appreciated the effort. We requested the government to take it forward, and they’ve now committed to applying this technology to five more crops. It’s a welcome move that will benefit farmers,” he said.

When asked about the possible reunion of Raj and Uddhav Thackeray, Pawar remained non-committal. “I have no information about that. I haven’t spoken to them. How can I comment?” he responded.

Over the past few days, political circles have been abuzz with reports suggesting that both estranged Thackeray cousins and the divided Pawar factions may be inching toward reconciliation. A closed-door meeting between Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar further added fuel to the speculation.
