A devastating fire broke out in a residential building in Dwarka’s Sector 13 on Tuesday morning, claiming the lives of a man and his two children after they jumped off a balcony. The incident occurred at the Shapath Society, located near MRV School, shortly before 10am.
The blaze, which reportedly originated on the eighth and ninth floors of the building, quickly engulfed the top floors in flames and thick smoke. Disturbing visuals from the scene showed massive flames leaping from windows and dense clouds of smoke billowing into the air.
In a desperate attempt to escape, 35-year-old Yash Yadav and his two children jumped from their balcony. Despite the quick response from emergency services, all three were declared dead shortly after. The children succumbed to their injuries at Aakash Hospital, while Yadav was declared dead at IGI Hospital.
Yash Yadav, who was involved in the flex board business, lived in the flat with his wife and two children. His wife and elder son survived the incident and were rushed to IGI Hospital for medical treatment.
The Delhi Fire Department received a distress call at 9:58am and promptly dispatched eight fire tenders to the scene. A sky lift was also deployed to assist in rescuing residents trapped on the upper floors. Firefighting operations were launched immediately, with police, fire brigade, and ambulance services coordinating efforts on site.
Authorities have since evacuated all residents from the building as a precaution. To prevent further hazards, electricity and gas connections in the area were temporarily switched off.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have been notified and will carry out an assessment of the structural stability of the affected building.
At present, the cause of the fire remains unknown. Fire officials stated that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and further details will be shared in due course. Residents have been advised to steer clear of the area to ensure emergency services can continue their operations safely and without obstruction.
