The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee(MPCC) staged a major protest in Dadar, accusing the Modi-led central government of misusing the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to suppress opposition leaders and stifle dissent. The demonstration, held near Indiabulls in Dadar, was led by Congress in-charge Ramesh Chennithala and state president Harshavardhan Sapkal.

Addressing the media, Chennithala condemned the ED’s actions against Sonia Gandhi  and Rahul Gandhi,  calling them politically motivated. “The Modi-Shah regime is targeting opposition leaders to destroy the Congress. But these tactics will not deter us—we will continue to fight back against this authoritarianism,” he said.

The protest saw participation from several senior Congress leaders including Vijay Wadettiwar, Satej Patil, Manikrao Thakare, Nana Patole, Naseem Khan, MPs Chandrakant Handore, Rajani Patil, Praniti Shinde, and other prominent figures. Party functionaries and workers joined in large numbers. Police briefly detained the protestors before releasing them.

Chennithala also hit out at the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra, accusing it of betraying public trust. He cited the ‘Laadki Bahin’ scheme, saying beneficiaries were promised Rs. 2,100 but are now being given only Rs. 500. “The scheme was a poll gimmick, and the government is deceiving women voters,” he alleged.

He further announced that the Congress will soon reorganize its committees at the state and district levels, and a leadership camp will be held in Mahabaleshwar to strengthen party strategy.

Ahead of the protest, a meeting of Congress MPs was held at Tilak Bhavan, followed by a separate session with senior leaders to discuss internal coordination and future strategy. State president Harshavardhan Sapkal  stated that the party will intensify its campaign against anti-people policies of both the central and state governments.

“The Congress will continue to fight against the injustice and political persecution by the Modi government. This is not just about our party—it’s about safeguarding democracy,” said Sapkal, asserting that the party will take the fight to the people in the coming days.
