Two people killed and several others injured in two separate incidents of violence that erupted in a span of few hours on Tuesday, ending days of calm in Manipur. Gun firing was reported near the border of Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts when farmers were on the field. Unknown miscreants opened firing and claimed a life of a village volunteer near Naranseina Maning Lobuk in Bishnupur. The victim was identified as Laibujam Ina. He had sustained multiple bullets, rush to Imphal Hospital but later succumbed to the injuries. At least seven others were reportedly injured in the firing including two farmers.

In a separate incident clashes erupted at Khoirentak village in Churachapndpur district where a village volunteer named Jamgminlen Gangte, 39, was killed after miscreants opened firing, prompting retaliatory firing too.

This comes after a brief period of lull in the state where spate of violence that started on May 3 had remained unabated for over 100 days. So far more than 160 people have lost their lives to the violence.

Meanwhile, four militants belonging to different outfits were arrested in separate operations and arms and ammunition were seized from them, claim Manipur police. According to a police statement, the militants were identified as one insurgent each of the NSCN(IM) and the People's Liberation Army (PLA), and two overground workers of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) (Lamyanba Khuman faction) from Imphal East and Bishnupur districts.
