West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lashed out at BJP on Friday and threw an open dare if the saffron party will cross even 200, contrary to the claims and slogans of Prime Minister Narendra Modi “Abki Bar 400 paar” in the impending Lok Sabha election starting April 19, 2024. Calling the slogan a ‘jumla’, Mamata Banerjee rebuked as why was the target mere 400 and not 420 seats in the Lok Sabha of 543 seats.

“In Bengal assembly election they said ‘Abki Baar 200 paar’ in an assembly of 294 seats. But they were stopped around 70 seats. Now their call is 400 seats. I say why are you aiming for 400 and not 420. Win 420 seats and form a 420 government that puts everyone in jail”, said TMC supremo during a public meeting in Alipurduar on Friday.

This isn’t the first time Mamata Banerjee has cast her aspersions on BJP’s projection of a possible win of over 400 seats, claiming the number arithmetic doesn’t give BJP any edge. The Chief Minister has also claimed that Bengal will play a larger role in formation of government in New Delhi, indicating of a possible situation where TMC could become the kingmaker if INDIA bloc reaches that opportunity to form an alliance government at the centre. “Bengal will shape the government at the centre. Remember this and do not waste your votes by voting for another party. Only TMC is fighting against the BJP in Bengal”, she added during a public meeting in Coochbehar on Friday.

Mamata Banerjee has been holding series of meetings in the Northern part of Bengal from where the elections begin on April 19 in this seven phase polling in the state. Bhartiya Janta Party had registered its finest tally in Northern part of Bengal in 2019 Lok Sabha elections by winning all eight Lok Sabha seats from there. BJP has also upped their campaign there. Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Balurghat in South Dinajpur last Wednesday and the Prime Minister is expected to hold multiple rallies in the region, leading up to the first phase of polling beginning with Coochbehar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri seats in Bengal.
