Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday declared the 'Muslim League Jammu Kashmir' an 'unlawful association' under the anti-terrorism legislation, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Masarat Alam leads the organization and serves as the interim chairman of the association within the All India Hurriyat Conference.

Taking to the social media platform “X”, Amit Shah said that PM Modi’s government acts against anyone who violates the “unity, sovereignty, and integrity” of India. “The ‘Muslim League Jammu Kashmir (Masarat Alam faction)’/MLJK-MA is declared as an 'Unlawful Association' under UAPA. This organization and its members are involved in anti-national and secessionist activities in J&K supporting terrorist activities and inciting people to establish Islamic rule in J&K. The PM @narendramodi government's message is loud and clear that anyone acting against the unity, sovereignty, and integrity of our nation will not be spared and face the full wrath of the law,” posted the Union Home Minister.

As per the Home Ministry’s notification, the organization is recognized for its promotion of "anti-India and pro-Pakistan propaganda." The notification further stated that its leaders have engaged in fundraising from various channels, including Pakistan and its affiliated entities, to support illicit activities. The notification specifically mentioned that the leaders of the organization, particularly Chairman Masarat Alam, have been involved in activities that are detrimental to the unity, integrity, security, and communal harmony of the nation.
