The Union cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday has approved the allocation of assistance for the construction of an additional 3 crore rural and urban houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). This step was taken during the inaugural meeting of the Cabinet of Narendra Modi 3.0, convened at the Prime Minister's residence on 7 Lok Kalyan Marg.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at the helm of a coalition government, convened his first cabinet meeting following his oath-taking ceremony. The agenda included advising the President on the formulation of the 18th Lok Sabha. As per reports, the Cabinet's foremost decision was the approval of plans to construct 3 crore houses for the rural and urban poor as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The PMAY has been in effect since 2015-16, facilitating assistance to eligible rural and urban households for constructing houses equipped with basic amenities.

Over the past decade, as per records, a total of 4.21 crore houses have been completed under various housing schemes. All houses constructed under the PMAY receive essential amenities, including household toilets, LPG connections, electricity connections, and functional household tap connections, through coordinated efforts with central and state government schemes.

Earlier today, PM Modi authorized the release of approximately ₹20,000 crore to benefit around 9.3 crore farmers, marking his first official action since assuming office.

Thirty cabinet ministers, both new appointees and incumbents, took their oaths of office at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday. Additionally, five Ministers of State with Independent charge and 36 junior ministers were also sworn in.
