Ukraine Hit with Over 100 Missiles and Drones in Latest Russian Attack: President Zelensky

President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday said that a Russian barrage hit Ukraine with more than 100 missiles and around 100 drones including several western regions of the country. Zelensky urged European nations to help down drones and missiles over Ukraine in the wake of deadly Russian aerial bombardments across his country.

“Currently, across the country, efforts are underway to eliminate the consequences of the Russian strike. This was one of the largest attacks – a combined strike, involving over a hundred missiles of various types and around a hundred ‘Shaheds’. Like most Russian strikes before, this one was equally insidious, targeting critical civilian infrastructure.”, said President Zelensky in a post on social media.

According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, 15 regions had sustained damage. Zelensky said the energy sector had taken a lot of damage. “The energy sector has sustained significant damage, but in every area affected by power outages, restoration work is already in progress.”, said Zelensky.

"If such unity has worked so well in the Middle East, it should work in Europe as well. Life has the same value everywhere", added Zelensky apparently referring to the US helping Israel shoot down Iranian projectiles.

The President of Ukraine once again urged Ukraine’s allies to allow long-range strikes into Russia. Ukraine had no powerful long-range weapons at the start of the invasion but has since developed many models of long-range attack drones and used them to hit targets deep inside Russia ranging from oil refineries to military airfields.

Russia dramatically stepped up its strikes on the Ukrainian power grid in March in what Kyiv has said looks like a concerted effort to degrade the system ahead of winter when people need electricity and heating most. Monday's missile and drone salvo was Russia's most intense in weeks, coming as Ukraine is claiming new ground in a major cross-border incursion into Russia's southern Kursk region while Russian forces steadily inch forward in Ukraine's east, closing in on the transport hub of Pokrovsk. Power cuts and water supply outages were reported in numerous places, including parts of Kyiv, as officials said the attack targeted power or other critical infrastructure in at least 10 regions.​
