Trinamool Congress on Tuesday lodged a formal complaint, urging action against BJP MP Dilip Ghosh for alleged violations of the model code of conduct. The complaint, addressed to the chief electoral officer in Kolkata, accused Ghosh of making derogatory remarks against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. According to the TMC, Ghosh's comments not only lacked decorum but also displayed a blatant disregard for the dignity of a prominent political figure.

“Complaint against Mr. Dilip Ghosh candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for passing derogatory and offensive comment personally attacking Smt.Mamata Banerjee, thereby violating Model Code of Conduct (MCC),” reads the letter submitted by TMC, addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal. “Mr. Ghosh's comments not only cross the boundaries of decency but also perpetuate a culture of misogyny and disrespect towards women in positions of power,” adds the letter.

Dilip Ghosh, BJP MP representing Medinipur and the party's candidate from Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha seat, stirred controversy with comments mocking Mamata Banerjee's family background. In a purported video clip, Ghosh disparaged TMC's slogan of "Bangla Nijer Meye ke chai (Bengal wants its own daughter)," suggesting inconsistency in Banerjee's identification with different states. "When Didi goes to Goa she becomes Goa's daughter, in Tripura she says I am Tripura's daughter, decide who is your father; this is not right,” Dilip Ghosh said earlier today.

The Trinamool Congress leadership hit out at Dilip Ghosh over his remark, expressing disapproval towards his comment and said that such comments amounted to a clear violation of the model code of conduct. "Dilip Ghosh has a lot of frustration. The BJP has insulted and ignored him. He does not have the guts to fight this insult and so he's doing all sorts of loose talks about Mamata Banerjee,” said Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh.

"We are all the daughters of India. Wherever we go, we will be the daughters of India. Whichever state we visit, we will be its daughter...Dilip Ghosh is such a petty man; he is contesting elections and he thinks that he will win and become a public representative. Will such a man be the public representative? BJP's DNA and its character are so bad that they are attacking women and Mamata Didi...They want to suppress and weaken women if they grow powerful. If such is the mindset of politicians, what will be the mindset of workers? What impact will it have on the ground level?” said Trinamool Congress leader Sashi Panja, urging the Election Commission to take strict action against Ghosh.

Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev slammed Dilip Ghosh and said that BJP in Bengal is frustrated. “For the past two days, the leaders of BJP have been giving long speeches against the insult of one of their women candidates. But the kind of statements BJP is issuing against the only woman CM of this country is against the politics and traditions of this country. BJP is frustrated in Bengal. It is losing. The more the BJP insults Mamata Banerjee, the more people will be with her. I would like to tell Dilip Ghosh that we know where this filthy thinking of yours against women comes from. This is RSS' thinking - that which is against women…I would like to tell the BJP leaders and NCW chief - you are so concerned about the woman candidate of BJP but people like you should be ashamed that whenever Mamata Didi is insulted by the BJP, you stay silent. This is your hypocrisy,” asserted Sushmita Dev.

The letter submitted by the Trinamool Congress states specific provisions of the model code of conduct, emphasizing the prohibition against statements that attack personal lives or exhibit malicious intent, offending decency and morality. Additionally, the party condemned Ghosh's comments for allegedly perpetuating a culture of misogyny and disrespect towards women in positions of power.
