Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday instructed the state police to register a case against Rahul Gandhi for allegedly "provoking the crowd." This comes after Rahul Gandhi and Congress workers were stopped from entering the state at the Guwahati border. Clashes between the police forces and the party workers ensued.

Taking to the social media platform “X”, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sharma shared a video of the clashes between the police and the party workers and said that “such ‘Naxalite tactics’ are completely alien to our culture.” “These are not part of Assamese culture. We are a peaceful state. Such “naxalite tactics” are completely alien to our culture. I have instructed @DGPAssamPolice to register a case against your leader @RahulGandhi for provoking the crowd & use the footage you have posted on your handles as the evidence. Your unruly behavior and violation of agreed guidelines have resulted in a massive traffic jam in Guwahati now,” posted the Assam CM.

Rahul Gandhi along with nearly 5,000 Congress workers trying to enter Guwahati on Tuesday was stopped by the state police. The party workers clashed with the police forces and broke barricades. The police had to lathi-charge to disperse the crown and bring the situation under control. This move comes at a time when Congress has alleged that the Assam Government is creating roadblocks in the way of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra since it entered the state on Thursday.

"Assam CM, the Union Home Minister and the PM can break the rules, but we (Congress) would never do such a thing. However, this doesn't mean that we are weak. Congress workers are 'Babbar Sher'," said Rahul Gandhi at a gathering near the Guwahati border.

Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra had been denied permission to move through the roads of Guwahati as the yatra, as per the schedule, was slated to cross Assam after its stoppage at Meghalaya on Tuesday. Before that, Gandhi along with his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entourage was not allowed to enter Assam’s Batadrava Satra temple, the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardeva near Guwahati.
