West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on Governor C.V. Ananda Bose alleging that his overt interference in state matters; especially in matters pertaining to state universities is acting as a major hindrance in the functioning of the government on Tuesday.

Alleging that the Governor is holding back bills by the state assembly, Banerjee said, "The governor's actions are an attempt to paralyze state administration. If need be, I will sit on dharna (protest) outside the Raj Bhavan.” Banerjee expressed her disappointment over the omnipresence of the governor in all matters of the state.

"If the governor continues to interfere in the functioning of universities, we will block the funds”, said Banerjee stating that the Governor was over-involved in the functioning of universities. This comes after a heated exchange between the Education Minister of West Bengal and CV Ananda Bose over the appointment of Vice-Chancellors across West Bengal on Monday. On Sunday night, Governor CV Ananda Bose appointed interim VCs for seven universities, including the Presidency, the University of Burdwan and MAKAUT, from the capacity of an acting Chancellor.

While referring to the ‘President of Bharat’ inviting leaders and foreign delegates for a G20 dinner, highlighting the sudden change in nomenclature, Banerjee said, "I heard that India's name is being changed. The G20 invite that went out in the name of the honorable president has Bharat written on it. We call the country Bharat, what is new in this? In English, we say India. The world knows us as India. What happened suddenly that the name of the country needs to be changed? History is being rewritten in the country.” Stating that it is a deliberate attempt made by the Union Government to dampen the ethos of the country and rewrite its course of history.
